North Korea may be showing signs of cultural change. Disney characters (in violation of copyright) made an appearance at an official concert for Kim Jong-un and his entourage.

Footage released on Monday by North Korean state-run television showed Mr. Kim in a black Mao suit watching as Mickey Mouse conducted a group of young women playing violins in skimpy black dresses. Scenes from the Disney movies “Dumbo” and “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” were projected on a multiple panels behind the entertainers.

The appearance of the animated characters was unprecedented on typically rigidly controlled North Korean television, known for its somber and overtly political programming. Disney spokeswoman, Zenia Mucha, said, “This was not licensed or authorized by the Walt Disney Company,” but had no additional comment.
