This computer-animated science fiction action/adventure film tells the story of life surviving through apocalypse brought about by an entity known as the machine. A scientist is ordered by his dictator to create the machine in the name of progress, however it is seized and corrupted by a dictator to construct an army of war machines to destroy his enemies. With no soul to guide it, the machine now corrupted by fear and hate, spreads death and destruction, exterminating all organic life with toxic gas. The world is left in ruins.

A hand-stitched automaton doll, known only by the number 9 on his back, wakes up in the midst of the detritus in this post-apocalyptic world. The only other clue to his purpose is a metallic disk he carries, engraved with three runic symbols.

9 soon discovers he is not alone and other dolls have also awakened and survived. He soon learns the truth of the disk and what happened to the world. After realizing the truth of their existence and creator, the dolls are prepared to die fighting the machine and its creations as the last hope for mankind’s salvation.

An amazing film with excellent animation and a plot grounded with philosophical implications that resonate with me in this modern era of technology. If you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favor and check it out.
