Bill Nye, CEO of the Planetary Society, has recently entered the press in a big way. He has been an advocate for the scientific process and evolution. Now he is petitioning for the support of the Planetary Exploration. And I couldn’t support him more.
Support the society and the future of space exploration and development for the benefit of all mankind; for our posterity. Write a letter to the president or donate to the cause.
Below is what I have written and submitted:
I know you won’t actually read this, but perhaps someone, somewhere on your staff will.
The human race must reach for the stars. With no hope for expansion to other planets or space stations, we will succumb to our own numbers and dwindling natural resources. Whatever survivors there are from the devastation mankind wrought on itself will most likely be a vastly different species.
Our nation along with other leading nations should be focused not on nuclear arms, but nuclear energy. Not the depleted oil fields, but the mineral rich asteroid fields. There is more to this solar system than just the Earth, and what’s more… There is enough for all; the Universe is infinite!
No single human life needs be destroyed by our inherit evolutionary flaw: avarice. It was a necessary evil to ensure mankind could claw his way to the top of the evolutionary hierarchy, and it is this vice that is solely responsible for the atrocities we have committed throughout the ages. We have achieved so much in the realms of culture and technology, yet we are scarcely out of the dark ages.
Balance between mankind and nature can and will be found, but only when we embrace our destiny to master and understand all that is around us; sharing knowledge and experience to nurture the collective wisdom of mankind with all rather than selfishly hoarding its gifts at the expense of any group(s) of people.
