Political Campaign Ads: The choice is clear… Sort of.

The Republican Party of South Dakota (SDGOP) launched a new webvideo that looks at the different backgrounds of this state’s two congressional candidates. I… I don’t really know what to say about this one. Up until about halfway through, I was convinced this ad was pro Varilek.

Noem was in South Dakota farming stuff while Varilek traveled around the world earning advanced degrees and giving presentations to the UN before working in politics. The choice is clear: A highly educated environmentalist with varying experiences, working with many types of people around the world OR Farmfarmfarmfarm.

There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there always has been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that “my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”

—Isaac Asimov

Its like politics in our country can be equated to an episode of Honey Boo Boo… Just put me out of my misery.
