Is “Hell” an invention of the church?

John Selby Spong is an Episcopalian priest who argues that “Hell” is an invention of the church to control people with fear. The idea that the Truth of God can be bound in any human system, by any human creed, by any human book, is almost beyond imagination for me. I am inclined to agree with this man’s views. 4th century piece of papyrus references Jesus’ wife and a female disciple.

A historian of early Christianity at Harvard Divinity School has identified a papyrus fragment, written in Coptic in the fourth century, containing the first known explicit statement that Jesus was married and further refers to a female disciple. The faded papyrus fragment is just a few inches wide, with eight ink lines, written in Coptic, on one side. Sitting here, waiting.

I think I’m going to sit back and let opportunity present itself. It’s a lot harder for me to just relax than actively pursue a goal. What can I say, we’re all flawed. Sometimes, you just need to let the chips fall where they may before you can figure out your next move. So for now, I’m just going to focus on the present moment and being content with what is instead of fretting over what may yet come to pass.
