The Black Box: Seeing the Unseen

The Assignment:

Project Notes

Create an installation which enhances one sense and denies another.

Description:

Our tranquil semblance of reality is a carefully constructed and controlled environment. Truth is deemed too difficult or dangerous for us to comprehend. We turn a blind eye to the societal decay we are surrounded by every waking minute. We let it slide into our periphery. Out of focus.

Denying our direct line of sight forces the viewer to rely on other senses. Scents and sounds were used to create an atmosphere of discomfort as we strain to comprehend the horrors and atrocities of human nature. Angled relfective surfaces give us a blurry peripheral visual of a projected looping video.
